Created in 1991, the European Group of Private International Law aims to study the interactions of private international law and European law in their broadest sense. It is a forum for the exchange of information and ideas for scientific and academic purposes. The membership, which is limited in number, is primarily composed of university academics from across the Member States of the European Union. It was constituted officially as an association under Luxembourg law in 2004.

The Group holds an  annual three-day meeting hosted by one of the members.

The proceedings of the meetings are made available, as well as the texts adopted.
